Berninamycin D is an antibiotic reported to be isolated from fermented Streptomyces bernensis. In comparison to Berninamycin B and C, reports show that the pyridine ring of Berninamycin D has fewer dehydroalanine structures on the carboxyl carbon. Berninamycin is described to affect the function of the ribosomal A site, act as a vigorous inhibitor of protein synthesis in gram-positive bacteria, and has the same mode of action as Thiostrepton . Other Berninamycins include Berninamycin A , B, and C.
